Frequently Asked Questions
These are some commonly asked questions by international students planning to study in the United States.
Can International Students Work On-Campus in the USA??
Yes, F-1 visa students can work on-campus up to 20 hours per week during the semester. Jobs include library assistant, cafeteria worker, research assistant, etc. No extra work permit is needed for on-campus jobs. Check with your university’s career center or international office for opportunities.
Do I Need Class 9, 10, 11, and 12 Marksheets to Apply?
Yes, most U.S. universities require transcripts from grades 9 to 12.
They use your academic history to evaluate consistency and performance. Some may focus more on grades 11 and 12 for admissions. Translated and certified copies might be needed if your school documents are not in English.
Can I Work Off-Campus as an International Student?
Only under special conditions like CPT (Curricular Practical Training) or OPT. These must relate to your field of study and be approved by your school and USCIS. Unauthorized off-campus work is a visa violation. Follow the legal process carefully to stay in status.
Can I Apply to U.S. Universities Without SAT?
Yes, many U.S. universities are now test-optional or test-blind.
That means you can apply without the SAT or ACT, especially after COVID-19. However, top universities might still prefer strong test scores. Check the admissions policy of each school before applying.
Are Extracurricular Activities (ECA) Important for U.S. Admissions?
Yes, ECAs are very important for U.S. college applications.
They show your leadership, interests, and community involvement.
Clubs, sports, music, volunteering, or internships all count.
Strong ECAs can sometimes balance average academics or test scores.
Can I Get a Scholarship Without SAT or ACT?
Yes, many schools offer merit-based scholarships even without test scores. They consider GPA, essays, ECAs, and leadership roles.
Some scholarships may still require SAT/ACT—read the eligibility criteria carefully. Private scholarships outside the university may also be an option.
